Questions and Answers

  • How do you catch fish with a fly?

Fly fishing involves presenting an insect imitation (a fly) on the water’s surface or in the water column in a way that encourages the fish to strike.

Mastering casting technique is key — by using a heavy line and a light fly, you can place the lure precisely. Watch how the fly moves on the water and adjust the speed of the presentation to mimic the natural behavior of an insect.

  • When is the best time to fly fish?

The best results usually come in the early morning and late evening when insects are actively feeding on the surface (the so-called “rises”). In summer, it’s worth fishing right after sunrise and just before sunset.

In colder months, fish may feed on flies during short, warmer periods of the day.

  • How to start your fly fishing journey?

Start with a beginner kit — a 5–6 weight rod, a reel with the right spool, and a basic set of flies (dry and nymphs). Sign up for a short course or take a private lesson to quickly learn the basic casts and how to handle the gear. Focus on observing the river: learn to read currents and identify spots where fish are feeding.
